31st July 2013 Garden Chapel

F-in-F mass at ParcevallThe beautiful diocesan retreat house, Parcevall Hall, set in the hills by Appletreewick and set in the context of what is now a National Trust garden is home to the tiny ‘Garden Chapel’, which remains under the auspices of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Traditionalists in the diocese have come to celebrate at least one Mass of Our Lady there each year – on what we hope will be lovely sunny evening.
Not so this year. After all the good weather we have had, it was raining hard and relentlessly. The chapel is full with twelve people. We were twenty – any more and some would have been standing outside (as has happened in previous years) – and with the sound of the rain all round us, we had a lovely and devotional celebration. It is a long way to come – especially for Fr Benedict and Christine Haigh, from Huddersfield – but an important commitment.
